Knitting for Charity

Now and again someone comes up with a great idea to raise money and. the awareness so many charities need. I have sang, danced, walked and abseiled for charity but never thought for a moment I would be knitting for a good cause. Saylavy a local bookkeeping company here in Derby are working in partnership with The Padley Group to encourage people to get knitting for The Big Derby Knit. They want to get 200+ scarves by October this year to distribute through The Padley Group who help homeless and vulnerable adults on our streets and to raise awareness of a continuous problem not just here in Derby but across the UK.

So what do you have to do? Just knit a scarf.....easy peasy. I haven't knitted for years and it's funny how you can get straight back into it. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate and you don't have to be a professional knitter. I've got my mum knitting again after a break for years and we are both loving it. We are having a really nice mum and daughter bonding session, not that we need to bond any more than we are. Superglue has got nothing us, we are quite well bonded but it is really nice to do something together and something that is relaxing. It's caused a few laughs as well already and that was just casting the stitches on. They say it's good for you, can relieve stress and depression. I am finding it quite relaxing so far and I can't stop, I tell myself this is my last row but then carry on and on. Fun, relaxation and doing something worthwhile for charity, what more could you want?

This is the appeal from Saylavy and details of their campaign, they do have a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BigDerbyKnit/

So what are you waiting for? Get knitting. I personally have found some nice chunky multicoloured wool and 10mm bamboo needles from Hobbycraft. I have cast on 35 stitches and just using a simple knit stitch to keep it simple. It's up you though, just go with the flow, as long as we can provide something to provide a bit of warmth to those who are outside during the winter months.

Thanks to my friend Ros who recommended me to the Big Knit and I hope we can get more people knitting and get to the target of 200 scarves.

Thanks to you as well for reading and I will be back tomorrow with a verse for Thursday.

Take care for now......
