Right in the heart of the Derbyshire village of Findern is Bee's Tearoom. A beautifully situated haven of tea, coffee and a light lunch if you fancy one. Lindsay Bee offers sandwiches, jacket potatoes, homemade soup and freshly baked (by herself) cakes and scones.
Mum from the Brew and I sat in the summer sunshine drinking tasty tea, brewed in quaint teapots with classic tea cups. It felt so villagey I half expected Dawn French as The Vicar of Dibley to pop out from the Church across the road. Along with our tea we shared the last slice of Gluten Free Courgette and Advocado Cake which was so tasty. I thought at first that this combination would taste awful but my goodness it was gorgeous. It was very similar to a carrot cake and I even thought carrot was a weird thing to put in cake at first but veggies work so well and I felt a little bit healthy - two of my five a day there. A very friendly atmosphere as soon as we entered the tearoom and when we enquired about gluten ree items the staff said if we rang ahead next time they would have some gluten free scones there for us to devour. I'm loving these people and this place! I would definitely return as it was just so welcoming but apart from that you cannot beat where it is situated. Go and try it out now!! You won't be disappointed For any more information you can find Bee's Tearoom at www.beestearoom.co.uk You can book online for Afternoon Tea, a bargain at £12.95 for sandwiches, cakes, scones, tea and coffee, perfect for a get together with friends or maybe a party? Sounds great to me - any excuse to eat cake and drink tea. Let me know if you have been to Bee's Tearoom and tell me what you thought. For now take care of yourselves. Don't forget to join be tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday. Bye for now.

Don't worry my lovely Yorkshire Tea I haven't left you forever but I decided to try a different Decaf bag. I saw the line 'The Tasty Decaf' and thought well I'll give that a go and I will be the one to tell you whether it's tasty.
My goodness I really didn't expect anything amazing but this tea really does taste lovely so PG Tips are right, it is a very tasty decaf indeed. They are pyramid bags which I have never worked out whether the shape of the teabag makes any difference but I just thought I would let you know in case you are a pyramid teabag fan. I like a decaf as I have needed to cut down on caffeine quite a bit. It is mainly strong coffee that usually makes me feel a bit funny, I know there is less caffeine in tea but I like to keep the decaf in anyway. Some decaf teas are terrible, very weak and no body to it but this PG Tips is full bodied....I would say the equivalent to a ladies dress size 18, a good confident quality leaf which can be proud to call itself tea. So why is PG Tips called PG and what does the PG stand for? Well my little brewsters I'm going to tell you. The company Brooke Bond launched a tea in the 1930's by the name of Pre-Gestee. This was marketed as a digestive tea. They believed you could drink tea prior to a meal as it helped with digestion (pre digestive tea - pre gestee....get it?). Regulations eventually came in later on which stopped tea being labelled as a digestive aid and the name was shortened to PG. The 'Tips' part came in to highlight the point that PG Tips contain just the tips and buds of the plant in the blend. So there you go.....every day is a school day. Think of this blog as an educational place to be. - you're welcome!! Like I say I'm not totally ditching my Yorkshire Tea Decaf but I just fancied a change and I can recommend these teabags so give them a go too and see what you think. Thank you for reading today......happy brewing and please come back tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday. Take care for now. Very fitting for Teapot Tuesday for me to have a new teapot and oh what a teapot. It's lovely isn't it?.....Please say yes. I haven't got a stainless steel one as I've always been put off by them. In the past I have had the odd one but the lid always seems to go a bit funny and end up not shutting properly. I must have been washing them wrong or something obviously has gone a miss in my past teapot days.
This is super big and remember that tea cosy that was too big for the teapots I had? Well it fits perfectly over this one. So I can fill it up to the max and still be drinking mugs of tea later on......heaven!!. Time will tell whether the lid will go dodgy but I'm willing to give the stainless steel another go. I'll be getting an urn next, why not? Just tea on tap, all the time. Maybe a bit too much for just me but hey I could have. a tea party.....that's another blog for another day. For now I will guzzle loads more tea out of my new pot. I purchased this one from The Range for £17.99, it has 1500ml capacity, that's posh for how much brew there is in it. Love it and it is filled with a nice bit of Yorkshire Decaf at this very moment while here writing this post. Oh just need a refill........ I'll go get one but you take care now and I will be back tomorrow for What to buy Wednesday. What does one possibly need now there is a new teapot in the house? Nothing that's what, I could do with changing my Wednesday's back to 'Whatever'......save me some pennies. We'll see. I just like to pass on some good bargains. Might have a look in Poundworld......they'll have some. Bye for now my fellow brewsters xx This is how I drank my brew today, from a flask and watching a bit of cricket. Tea and cricket have just gone together for years and years. Proper tea and sandwiches at the small cricket clubs after a game, such a quaint tradition.
Today was a Women's International between England and New Zealand and it was a great match. I watched half of it at the Derbyshire County Cricket Ground and then came home and watched the rest on tv. I had another commitment in the evening but kept an eye on England's bowling and blimey they just kept knocking the New Zealand girls out one after another to eventually go on and win by 123 runs Two brilliant teams and a really relaxing afternoon with family. I did think while popping very important items into my rucksack for the day, did I really need a flask of tea? What are you talking about Sue from the Brew? Have you gone completely mad? Of course you need to take a flask of tea. A whole afternoon without a brew, it's not happening. I could have bought one inside the ground but I had loads of it in my big flask. I did share it with Mum from the Brew and even though it was hot hot hot weather, I still have to drink my tea. What perfect day......sunny weather, a game of cricket, family and a brew......it doesn't get much better than that. Thank you for reading today and a big well done to England, lets hope the England luck follows on tomorrow for the Football World Cup Semi Final.......fingers crossed!! Take care.
Well I went for it and bought another whistling kettle. It's only took me just under a year to decide after writing this post last August........
what-kinda-kettle.html I was trying to decide whether to get another whistling one as I have really worn my old one out, or to go for an electric one that will switch itself off when it's boiled. Lazy I know but since having a whistling one I've definitely moved more and it is good if there is a power cut. So I treated myself to this lovely kettle from Amazon (a store called Pricecrunchers Ltd). It is very stylish and I can get a full 3.5 litres in this baby so I can brew for England. You can also get a 2.5 litre one too and in a selection of different which are black, red and cream. The 2.5 litre is priced at £14.52 and the 3.5 litre is £19.30 so a good price. It is sturdy, well made and it boils water. What more do you need? I don't know whether it's because it's new but it just boils quicker, I'm sure it probably doesn't and the science is the same but it just feels nice, new and fresh. It must be a few years since I have had a new kettle so the old one has seen we through many brews. The mechanism is good and the water pours easy, the handle hasn't got too hot but if I does I just use a small ovenproof cloth so that doesn't worry me. It's a kettle but it's great and glad I decided on this particular one. It's all poised and ready for tonight's football game between England and Columbia for my half time brew but I may need something stronger if it is not going well, we'll see. I will leave. a link below for this beauty but thank you for reading all about my new addition. Come back tomorrow for another bargain on What to Buy Wednesday but for now........ Take care. I think a teashop or coffee shop is just the best place to meet up with friends or family. It's even a place where you can go alone, read a book, do some work or studying. Someone else makes you a brew and you can also have a bit of food too. What more is there to want in this world apart from it being free of charge I suppose.
I was browsing on Facebook earlier and stumbled over this post which was on a group for a certain diet company. This poor woman posted a picture of her dinner which she was proud of as it was a nice healthy balanced meal and good for her. Well the comments about it were amazing. I thought if that same lady was in a restaurant with that same meal people wouldn't go up to her and say 'blimey those sausages don't look cooked'. It does make me mad and I do try not to go on so much but I'm like everyone else it becomes a habit to check the old timeline doesn't it? I prefer the teashop and meeting people in reality which surprises me as I'm not the most sociable person in the world. I do tend to like a bit of solitude now and again but I can still pop along and be by myself if I want to. It's Facebook live really in a tea/coffee shop, the only thing is that you notice things and don't comment - you just keep those feelings inside your own head. This where we used to keep those things years ago before social media. It's much nicer to just meet your bestie or a family member and have a giggle privately about life. I think from now on I may use Teapot Tuesdays to tackle some debates that may crop up through the week, as if we were sitting having a brew somewhere. That was the original plan for my blog, think of it as 'Make a Brew Sue goes Live'. Oh we could get t-shirts printed......ok I'll slow down a bit. I feel I needed a little rant about Facebook. I hope that lady ate all her dinner and it was bloody yummy. If it was me I'd have put a photo on of my empty plate and told them to bog off.....I ate it and it was gorgeous. But I feel she was a nice lady, not at all a bog off type. She probably swore offline and wondered why she bothered putting the post on at all, oh we've all done that haven't we? Bless those Facebook police types.....anyone would think they owned it. Anyway that's me finishing my brew now and it was a tasty Yorkshire Biscuit Brew. Full caffeine, no wonder I'm typing fast ha ha. You all take care now and be nice on those twitbook things. The world needs a bit more niceness. Forget Facebook anyway and come back here tomorrow instead for What to Buy Wednesday......I'll wow you with my bargains. Bye for now...... Oh two of my favourite things......tea and chocolate in one cup. Now I've tried chocolate tea before and could never make my mind up about it. Today though I really craved some chocolate. but I'm trying to retrain myself to get back onto my diet.
I've not been good, I'm managing to maintain my weight a little which is good but blimey I could eat a kilo of chocolate every day if given the chance. It's sweet stuff I'm craving and I just wish it would naff off. I don't want to spoil things as I've lost two and a half stone on Slimming World and I'm so close to my three stone award, well been close for a while and I so want to get there. I'm not very good with temptation so if there is a chunk of chocolate staring me in the face I'm having it.....life's too short and all that but yes life will be so much shorter if I don't shift some more weight. So I had a plan. I wondered whether having some of this Chocolate Chip Tea from Adagio Teas would take that craving away. It won't cost me syns as it's just tea so I'd be onto a winner. The Verdict: well of course there is nothing like tucking into a piece of soft milk chocolate, something irresistible like a Galaxy bar but it ain't happening. This tea is actually really nice and my favourite that I've tasted. It contains a really light taste of chocolate not overpowering at all and do you know I think it has helped. I find a drink of tea quite filling which is why I probably drink so much but this has made me feel quite full and taken away my craving. We'll see if it lasts but I might carry on and just use it when I'm really pinning for a bit of naughty chocolate. I think I've been quite clever there and used tea as a bit of therapy. It could just send me the other way and make the craving worse but I will have to keep you posted. The Yorkshire Biscuit Brew which I absolutely adore hasn't stopped me having the odd biscuit so I could be setting myself up for a mighty fail here. If you fancy trying the Chocolate Chip Tea from Adagio you can follow this link which will take yo on your way www.adagiotea.co.uk/flavors/chocolate_chip.html I've just spotted a caramel flavour on this website too and thinking of trying that........I will get my sweet tooth sorted by drinking tea. Heaven!! Thank you for reading today, join me again tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday. I can't actually believe how quick these weeks are flying by......you take care now. So what other uses can we find for our teapots and teacups? Well we can use them in the garden. Yes share the tea love my friends and extend the tea vessels out there with the natural world.
I purchased the wicker cup and saucer and popped a plant in it for a Mother's Day present this year. They are a nice change to cut flowers and last quite a long time. That's if you are better than me with the looking after plant life. I tend to fail here and think I am quite capable of killing a cactus if I tried. When I buy plants they quiver with fear as they seemed have heard on the grapevine (excuse the pun) that I am a plant murderer. I try though and I think it just takes a bit of time until I earn my green fingers. I definitely don't seem to have inherited any plant skills from Mum from the Brew, she's ace with plants......they love her. One day people, I will own plants and they will live!! The little china cup and saucer is a nice little bird feeder that hangs in my garden. I purchased this from our local garden centre. You can fill the cup with water for the birds and then put bird seed on the saucer. A bird bath and feeder.....brilliant. If you do have an old teapot or one that you don't use so much you could put a plant in it. I think it just makes a nice change from a standard plant pot and it makes a cute little feature in the garden. People are bound to comment on it and love the way it looks. I might plant my plants in teapots and then maybe that will make me look after them more.....yes???? Well ok we'll see. I am a florist which seems a bit bizarre and probably isn't great for my image that I'm not good with plants. I'm fine putting cut flowers together, there's an art to it and they go off to be looked after which is cool. The plant stuff before hand is done by magnificent growers all around the world and I think they are just the best but I just get them cut off at the stems and I think that's the kindest thing at present if I'm not involved in the growing process. I'd never get a job in a garden centre or a garden nursery.....can you imagine? They would have nothing to sell. I just struggle with the winters with my own plants and didn't fetch my beautiful Calla Lily in which I bought at Chatsworth last year......it drowned and froze. Not pretty, well not pretty anymore and I am disgusted with myself. I hang my head in shame and will watch more Gardeners World and attend Chelsea Flower Show to see if I can redeem myself. I can wrap a plant and make it look nice and the time between it coming from the market, spending a short time with me and finally getting to you is not long so alls good and the plant is deemed as safe. Safeguarding plants, who would have thought there would be a need. Next we'll see a telethon every year called 'Plants in Need'. I may feature heavily in that. Thank you so much for reading today.....please pop back tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday or as I should rename it 'I'll tell you what I bought from Amazon recently'. Hey I would hate you to miss a bargain. Take care I've just had my brew.....at the end of a lovely meal to celebrate my brothers birthday and my youngest son turning sixteen. We went to the Joiners Arms in Quarndon Derbyshire. which is absolutely lovely. The staff are so friendly and after eating there a few weeks ago we decided to return. The menu is fantastic with so much choice....they have their own pizzas and the portions are plentiful shall we say. There is a good extensive drinks menu too and quite a selection of tea and coffee. They have a Earl Grey, Breakfast Tea, Peppermint, Chamomile, Green Tea and a Fruit Tea so plenty to choose from. The dining area inside is so pretty with a extension to the pub which was built around a tree, it's like eating in a forest with added foliage and fairy lights......really magical - love it. As a family we've really become fond of it here.......tonight our boys were even treated to a birthday surprise.......a birthday board with ice cream....... A lovely touch and we felt very spoilt. A super place for a brew, light snacks outside or a full meal inside plus beverages of your choice. I can definitely recommend it here.
If you would like more information go to their website at: www.theja.co.uk or download the Chilled Pubs App and select The Joiners Arms to read their menu and take advantage of offers and their rewards scheme. Thanks for reading today.....join me again tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday but for now...... Take care. You just have to get one of these nifty teapots, it's just brilliant. The inenguiTEA teapot from Adagio Teas has just revolutionised making a brew using loose leaf tea. It's simple you pop your loose leaf tea into the pot, pour hot water onto your leaves and let it steep, then the magic happens. When it's ready you pop the teapot onto your cup, the valve underneath is released and the tea pours into your cup leaving the leaves behind in the teapot. It fits onto any cup with a diameter of 9.5cm and has a capacity of 470ml.....so easy to clean too by simply rinsing it out or you can pop it in a dishwasher. I'm so easily pleased and at present I keep making loads of tea because I just like seeing it pour through the fancy mechanism into the cup. Will the novelty wear off?.....I'm not sure but I'm enjoying it for now. Even my teenage son thinks its clever so it must good. I brewed a pot of Pu erh Hazelberry Tea from Adagio which is a blend of pu erh tea, strawberries, cocoa nibs, natural strawberry flavour, natural creme flavour and natural hazelnut flavour. I love this as it has a fruity taste combined with a nutty taste which really works. It doesn't just taste like a fruit tea which I'm not a big fan off, it tastes like proper tea with a hint of the fruit. I also like that I can drink it without milk. If you read my post last week you'll know that I mentioned the creme flavouring, this makes the tea taste as if milk or cream has been added, great if you are following a diet or added reassurance if you are never quite sure about black tea. You can purchase any of these products I have mentioned from Adagio Teas at www.adagiotea.co.uk
Here is the link to the ingenuiTea Teapot www.adagiotea.co.uk/teaware/ingenuiTEA_teapot.html and here is the link to the really tasty Pu erh Hazelberry Tea www.adagiotea.co.uk/pu_erh/index.html Please go and give these super teas a try and you will will be mesmerised by the teapot as I honestly think this is the best thing to happen to loose leaf tea for ages. It's even got entertainment value, what more do you need? Thank you for reading today, please come back tomorrow for What to Buy Wednesday but for now...... Take care. |
