A big congratulations to Jake Quickenden for becoming the Dancing on Ice winner last week. I said he was going to win but I think he was favourite anyway as he was so consistent throughout. I was pleased, I thought he was the best amongst them but I did think the final would be between him and Max Evans to be honest as I rated Max better than Brooke but hey you never know how these things are going to pan out.
It was good to see Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean back on the ice in a wonderful routine and also great to see them choreographing a routine for the final contestants. Now you see that made such a difference as they did coach the celebs in the past series and it definitely shows. I'm not knocking any of the professionals but Jane and Chris know how to bring out the best in the celebrities and give them better content. it was almost like watching the old series again. I had almost lost my DOI mojo thinking whether it was the change in set or the judges but no it's the choreography and the lack of input from Torvill and Dean. I know they wanted to step back a bit and take it more steady, I can't actually believe they still do what they do going into their sixties but you could see the frustration in Chris some weeks when he couldn't get his hands on some of the skating pairs. He so wants to be a part of it really, it must be hard to stop when it's taken up a big chunk of your life. Go on Chris get stuck in again we know you love it!! If you haven't tuned in to the Celebrity Bake offs so far then go and catch up as they are really worth a watch. The Great British Bake Off is running with different celebrities every week and raising money for Stand Up to Cancer. It really is very funny and they have chosen a good selection of celebs for this. Last week saw Martin Kemp struggle with his cupcakes, something that I would never ever see but it really didn't matter as he can smile his way out of any predicament I feel. The lovely Bill Turnbull took part and you will need a mascara warning as they have filmed him talking about his own diagnosis of cancer since the filming of Bake Off. This week was hilarious with Stacey Solomon, Ricky Wilson, Perri Kiely and Nick Hewer. Perri is so lovely and has grown into such a fine young man, I still think of him as the little lad in Diversity. Nick struggled throughout and I'm sure every single contestant from The Apprentice was having a moment seeing him under the strain of being completely out of his comfort zone. A huge well done to him though as he entered into it and after all it was all for charity. Stacey was the star for me, she shooed Mr Hollywood out of her kitchen and just made me laugh from beginning to end. Please watch it and give a little donation for a good cause. Yes I joined the nation at Barbara's funeral last weekend in Call the Midwife. But it wasn't the funeral that got me it was the lovely film that they had put together for Sister Monica Jones's birthday at the end. Filled with joy and sadness it was just beautiful, and the narration always sends me off to grab the Kleenex too. A great series again by everyone, we will miss you Barbara! Well that's another week over with again. I'm really looking forward to the return tonight of The Durrells and The Good Karma Hospital. Two of my absolute favourites so I shall give them a mention next week. For now though take care and join me again tomorrow if ya fancy for Music Monday.
