Soup or Broth?

Do you know something that pisses me off?
When is a soup a soup or a broth?
Soup is thicker and fills you up
broth is a bit watery and you could drink it from a cup

Both can have veggies in by the score
but I think it's soup I really adore
Broth is liquid from meat veg or fish
eaten on it's own or make a gravy if you wish

Broth can be used to thicken a soup
so I suppose they are from the same group
Buddies that seem to slosh together
and enjoyed whatever the weather

So it will piss me off no more
every day's a learning curve that's for sure
You can spill both down your best tablecloth
that's what makes soup a soup and broth a broth

Bossy Pigeons

I'm feeding the birds it's a serious job
seeds, nuts and a fat ball blob
Not forgetting water to drink
all on a table for a range of feathered friends I think

That's what I'd like to see
a variety of birds coming round for tea
But all I seem to get
is big bossy pigeons leaving the others a bit upset

I know pigeons are birds and have a rightful place
but they scoff all the food as if it's a race
My poor little blackbird didn't get a look in
pushed off the table his head all a spin

It's not right, I wish I could have words
I wonder if I've got the power to talk to the birds
I'd say 'oi you big bossy pidgies'
'help yourself but leave some for the other kiddies'

We wouldn't like someone keeping us from our food
if I ain't got my cake I feel totally nude
I'd give a pigeon a run for their cash
peck their feathered bottoms then make a quick dash

Justice for the small birds!! I feel a placard on the way
a list of rules they must obey
My dad has a barrier around his table ya know
The pigeons are not gone but they are forced down below

I tried that on mine but before it fell off
the pigeons developed special powers, got beyond and continued to scoff
Maybe I should open my table, welcome all to the food
A lesson we should learn - everyone welcome, and with that I conclude

Lost Love

It's rotten when love is not returned
it feels like your heart is well and truly burnt
To even think of making that effort again
seems hard work thinking back to then

Some things are not meant to be
life works out for the best, a future to see
So don't spend too much time with that broken heart
it will heal in time and you'll make a new start

For now though life alone is where it's at
some don't really understand that
There may be someone at the end of the phone
a friend to have a laugh with or even a moan

Love will come around again when the time is right
it will fall into place when 'the one' is in sight
You can't force it, it doesn't happen that way
you can't make it work if that someone won't stay

One could choose to be bitter, sad and mean
but where does that get you with all that you've seen
Yes you can say 'well what a waste of time'
it's just an experience, a mountain we climb

Mistakes are made on the expedition of life
you just overcome the trouble and strife
Life is your book which you are waiting to write
So start a new page make it happy and bright

♥️

Sweet Sixteen

Picture
My baby has turned sixteen
six foot tall and looking all lean
I don't look old enough to have a lad that old
oh ok then I'll look in a mirror and watch my wrinkles unfold

It only seems yesterday when I held him in my arms
those twinkly eyes and all his charms
He looked at his dad as if to say ' oh yeah I've heard you'
you look parent-like excuse me while I poo!!

Now he's more grown up than me
and common sense with a capital C
He grunts and moans from time to time
but that's normal at his age not a crime

He's in training for fully fledged manhood
a big bloke where a toddler once stood
The Power Rangers have left to make way for tech
and Telebubbies have been dumped for episodes of Star Trek

My work nurturing a child is almost done
I'm so proud of who he has become
There is something forever to be true.........he will always be my son
and I will always be his mum
