It's always funny hiring a car, especially when you get presented with one twenty times bigger and a million years newer than the one you already drive. Last week I went from a Ford Fiesta to a VW Sharan, slight difference in size especially when coming around to reversing and parking. I tend to pick parking spaces away from any other motorist normally so you can imagine when wanting to park this beast I nearly ended up in a remote highland village or pining for someone to say 'just use the coach parking spaces'. Alas I just drove past the coaches thinking how do you do it??
It was beautiful to drive though and a real treat. I found a sixth gear and worked the heating out by the time it had to be returned, even took an evening to read the manual....how sad! I guess I wanted to look like I'd owned the thing for a while, not wanting to let the VW owners club down. I can imagine them cursing at me being just a casual renter. My passengers were comfortable and we had room for our luggage especially a food bag with our snacks in. It's got to be done, some sandwiches drinks and biscuits for the journey and a bag of Werthers for the driver. Sorry Peter Kay but I love em' (you''ll get that if you watch Car Share). We rented Sharan from Enterprise Rent a Car in Derby at the Mansfield Road Branch and I have to say the staff there are just so friendly. I have rented from them before which is why I returned again. I would like to thank Marina Kousar and the team for all their help and making it so easy to to sort out and giving me a chance to drive something 'tasty' for the week. I can totally recommend them. For more information you can go to www.enterprise.co.uk/en/car-hire/locations/uk/derby-mansfield-road-u450.html So we are here for a verse for Thursday and here it is........... Sharan was her name and driving was her game She was comfortable and roomy on the straight and narrow never gloomy The chariot that took us away She was dark and mysterious but never delirious Four tough wheels this girl doesn't wear heels. It's the chariot that took us away She may be a machine with a lovely shiny sheen Well that's until we coaxed her over the hills and passed many daffodils Now a slightly mucky chariot that took us away There were times she made me want to swear trying to get her to rest just didn't seem fair I fought through and persevered parked her, we all cheered That very large chariot that took us away For soon we must return her I've rather enjoyed being a chaffeur But she must go and retire to the place from which we did hire Thank you very much for the chariot that took us away. Thanks for reading and I will be back tomorrow for Free From Friday. Take care for now........ We all have a teddy bear, haven't we? Well you should do. This is mine, he sits on a shelf in my bedroom and watches the world go by. He is actually my teddy which I just had to have in the days of The Bear Factory. Both my boys had their own teddy made in the Bear Factory and one even had a voice popped in it and a heartbeat. I didn't want to be left out so had one of my own, just so that I could join in the whole bear experience and dress it up. I know!! I do remember how old I am but I don't think you are ever to old for a teddy bear. Which brings me onto my verse for today. Many years ago as a young little Sue I took part in The Derby Arts Festival with my school. My mum will tell you how very stressful this was for her and bless her it would have been when I remember how little confidence I had and somedays it was even a struggle to get me to school. I rehearsed and practised along with my friends who were also taking part and the day came around. It was time for my performance, my mum sat by herself out of choice in the event that, if I didn't manage it and bottled out at the last moment, it really didn't matter. So what happened.......I only recited the following poem and received a distinction for it!!! One of my proudest moments and a big huge relief for my mum. So here it is and I can still recite most of it today after all these years.......... Teddy Bear by Aileen Fisher Teddy was under the lilac bush when the snow went away, we found him there. And one of his shoe button eyes was lost and the shine had gone from his yellow hair. But teddy blinked with his last black eye and said that he really didn't care (except that his cave was a trifle cold) as long as we came and found him there. And he said with a smile on his white yarn mouth that REAL bears slept in a cave or lair All through the winter.....and if they could, well then, why couldn't a TEDDY bear? A great memory which I will remember always. Aileen Fisher wrote more than 100 books for children, she died on 2nd December 2002 at the age of 96. Thank you for reading......... The Decision
Making a difficult decision can lead to a period of division You may think you were right and would put up a fight Today was the day to decide I feel that we made the right choice It was a chance to have our own voice The outcome may have been deemed as unreal but it led to a satisfactory deal Today was the day to decide Life it has it's ups and downs and leaves our faces with too many frowns There are choices to be made which may make us feel afraid But today was the day to decide Sometimes it's up to judge and jury leaving a court in a fury When it comes to someones fate for them 'not guilty' would be great Today was the day to decide So let's hope that the outcome prevails as everyone involved now exhales Our lives have to move on regrets? We have none As today was the day to decide |
A Verse for Thursday....is a chance for me to share some of my poems I have written and also my favourite poems from other writers, hope you enjoy them. Archives
