Follow your dreams, whatever they may be
don't do it if it doesn't make you happy
Life is too short to waste time on nonsense
and sit there doing nothing on that fence

Find a dream and go with it
if that's not the right one then find one that will fit
Life is a puzzle to see what you can find
but it's really ok to change your mind

If you are not smiling or laughing at least once a day
the day is wasted Charlie Chaplin would say
We go through stages which get really tough
but make sure you talk to someone to get through that stuff

We are on this Earth for a certain amount of time
so make that time count, make it sublime
After all it is no one's life but your own
if it seems a bit dull, change it, and on a different road you will roam

The summer hols have gone and we all seem keen
to get back to the grind with a new routine
It's a new start at college for some
a whole new adventure has only just begun

Folders, notebooks and pens have been bought
text books on Amazon have also been sought
Excitement mainly and nerves in there too
a bus to catch is also something new

All grown up my boys seem to be
towering miles high above me
I can't believe they once fitted in my womb
wouldn't get in there now it's just a shrivelled den of doom

I'm proud to see them as they go off on their way
timetables in hand for another busy day
A little more free and independence to gain
getting ready for adulthood, life in the fast lane

It may go slower, a more chilled life they may see
a bit like their mum feels like when she's drinking her tea
However it goes I'll help them on their quest
and wish them love, luck and all the very best

I had to fill in a form yesterday
one to confirm who I was and I was okay
I needed someone to countersign in case I was not believed
I hadn't imagined just how much it would take to get this acheived

There was a list that was a mile long
of people in society who's position was strong
Pillars of the community was all I could ask 
to help me along with my tiny little task

Fire Fighters, Police Officers, Solicitors I needed as a chum
well to know me for a couple of years was all that needed to be done
My brain ached by the time I had read this list
who could I possibly twist an arm to enlist?

I would think of someone and then there would be a hitch
I'd look again and that decision I would have to switch
I've never thought of so many people all in one day
all their jobs and the roles they play

 But I found my saviour and answer to my plight
no I didn't have to ask a pilot on a Trans Atlantic flight
I found a teacher, yes she was on my list
and now I can go forward with confirmation that I exist

It was great to be back with the Highland folk
to say I needed a holiday was no joke
So off we went up the big long road
the car packed to the max with our massive load

We had practised, rehearsed and packed so concise 
packed in like a ready to eat Balti with a small portion of rice
Squashy I'd say it may have been for some
but the passengers they could breathe....brilliant, job done

We had to take a detour on the way there
the scenic route but hey we were on hols why should we care
I now know what The Long and Winding Road is that The Beatles sang about
we got through safely though so we shouldn't really shout

A Tesco man had left shopping at our pad
a good idea eh? No shopping trip to be had
 We could just relax after our journey with a glass of wine
Pizza straight in the oven and I was in bed by nine

We toured the Scottish sights and of course had tea
cakes too, well this is a holiday with me
If you go away to somewhere with a fantastic view
it's only right to combine it with a brew

The weather was good and we had lots of fun
laughter, giggles and a bit of shopping was done
Family were hugged tight before leaving for home
but first to Edinburgh we would roam

I say thank you to the lovely people we saw
I wish we could see you all a lot more
I'm sure we will return for another venture that's new
so get your kettles ready, I'll be needing that Highland brew!!
