Well what do we think? I bet you're fed up with seeing it plastered all over your TV and social media but if you have nipped to another planet over the last few hours, the 13th Doctor has been announced.
Jodie Whittaker has been presented with the key to the Tardis and will take over from Peter Capaldi on Christmas Day. For me? I can't wait!! I was very surprised as I had my imaginary money on Kris Marshall being the one but there was a part of me that thought it may be too obvious. Previously the new Doctor has always been a surprise and someone you really didn't think of. I had never heard of Matt Smith when he took over and I hadn't seen a lot of Peter Capaldi before. There are mixed views about the choice, there always are. Jodie will be the first woman to play the Doctor which has also shaken things up slightly. It was rumoured that it may be a woman but I must admit I tended to shake that one off thinking they wouldn't go for it. We should know though that anything is possible in Whosville. I don't personally see how we can criticise the decision at the moment, especially as we haven't seen her in action yet. The time to make your mind up as to whether you continue to support Doctor Who is after a few episodes, give the girl a break. I think people are worried she may get in there and just sort everything out in the first series, like women do really. We tend to multi task and I don't see the Cybermen and Daleks putting her off in a rush. Us strong women tend to just get the job done don't we? Just as long as she can park that Tardis we will be ok eh? Just remember before tearing this girl apart that she will be nervous, I think as far as I've seen from her reaction to being revealed, she is excited and honoured to be taking this role on. She will know how much it means to hard fast Whovians and the BBC wouldn't have cast her if they didn't think this was going to work. I don't think they would have taken a massive risk without seeing something great in Jodie. So shall we wait and see? There will also be a change in head writer and executive producer as Chris Chibnall will replace Steven Moffat in the new series. His work includes Torchwood, Broadchurch and Life on Mars so pretty good I would say. I'm really looking forward to these new changes, I think a long running series like Doctor Who needs a new direction to stay fresh and current. I welcome a female Doctor, it wasn't what I initially had chosen in my mind but it could be really interesting. Time will tell (see what I did there?). I hope they put a lot of humour in and make her a top trendy woman that everyone wants to be. I want to be her already. I'd love that gig! Maybe not, too much pressure I'd end up eating far too much cake and probably crash the Tardis. Catch the Christmas special, funnily enough on Christmas Day and lets join together after that to review again. For now though take care and join me back here tomorrow for Music Monday.
