Oh it's getting a bit heated now in Gunpowder. tensions are rising now and it's all go for the blow up of Parliament. Wonder if they succeed? Oh of course we all know the end but I'm not going to spoil it as I have binge watched all three episodes. I know, I couldn't help it, I can never wait, patience isn't my thing. I will do a full review of that next week when we've all watched it. It is a great drama and you have to watch it till the end. All that history though did get me thinking about those times and I'm really glad that the BBC put on an additional programme called Elizabeth 1's Secret Agents. This started on Monday at 9pm and it opens up the Elizabethan era, how the network of spies and coding took it's form back then. This was I suppose the first experience of a secret service and it was intriguing to find out how they broke the codes, exposed people, convicting them of treason. This ended in a very violent death for those people which we see in Gunpowder if you are not hiding behind a cushion and can stick with the gore. I love these history documentaries and have come to realise that although we do know about some major historic moments we don't always know what led to them or what happened afterwards. If you like a bit of history then this is definitely for you. It is a three part series so I can recommend it. A new series of Piers Morgan's Life Stories started this week. I like this as it is the nearest thing to This Is Your Life which I loved when I was younger. It was so exciting to see who it was going to be and if they would fly that special person over from Australia to be there on the night. Would they fit everyone on the stage? Oh it was great, an insight into someones life which we only seem to do nowadays when they've died. Yes Piers is like marmite, again you either love him or hate him but I'm a little in between. He's like an annoying lover who gets on your nerves one minute but there's a part you love so you'll hang onto them. I like him when he does this series, I think he asks the right questions and doesn't dominate it so I'll stick with it. This week it was the turn of Kim Cattrall which I looked forward to knowing more about as I am a big Sex and the City fan. She was really lovely and you know I think she's right about another film, I think you can go too far with it when maybe it's best left where it is. I know her reasons were that she felt she was older and it was time to leave Samantha behind. So why don't they start the new film with her funeral? That's what I'd do, kill her off or get someone else in but for me I don't think that will work. I wonder if she would compromise on a quick death seen at the beginning? Oh get me - I'm no director but seems I've started a plot for Sex and the City 3. Lovely show and good for her for being positive but she didn't hold back on the truth about her co stars. It's never like it is in the movies you know. I like the fact you learn something new about someone with this programme and get to know the real person. They have been quite emotional to watch in the past as people do expose some sensitive parts of their lives. I think Piers handles those situations well so love him or hate him he does a good job here. I did watch The Good Doctor which was on Sky Living - Friday at 9pm but because it is based around a character with Autism I am going to watch another one and review that on the next Autism Support Saturday feature. It has got off to a great start and I do love the first episode but I'm always a bit cautious now of reviewing some programmes having only seen one, especially on this subject so have a catch up then see what you think. Well that's it for this week, we go into the Bake Off final next week and progress further with Strictly. I think Simon will go tonight but hey lets see. There is definitely a strong bunch pushing through but I want someone to win that wasn't a dancer before. I feel Alexandra, Mollie and Aston have all had quite a bit of dance experience so I've got my eye on Joe McFadden, think he's been my fav from the start. I do love Debbie McGee as well, I know she has had dance training but blimey I just want to as bendy as her when I get to her age which is only ten years away so better get cracking. I will see you again for Music Monday tomorrow if you fancy it. For now though....... Take care.

Well what can I say about Liar this week. My goodness I was so trying to keep an open mind and I actually thought that there may have been a third person involved. I thought by some of the visual shots that someone was sneaking around the house and Andrew was getting the blame when it was another person who raped Laura. Oh I fell for his lies, the sneaky man!! There I was believing his poor little puppy face and innocent looks. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
See, that's the sign of good drama. I want to feel exactly like that when watching it. So uncertain and a bit confused but shock and horror too. Such brilliant writing and cannot wait to see the next episode. This leads me to another drama which I actually thought may not have been as good as the first series. Doctor Foster took a massive turn this week and brought me around and made me believe in it again. I am bit sorry I lost faith in this and doubted it but my goodness it just exploded into a great show again. Like everyone else I think I was questioning Gemma's character and I think it's fair in saying we thought she had become a bit of a bunny boiler but maybe that's what the creators wanted us to believe. All the time she had been trying to prove that Simon was still obsessed with her. He was rumbled by Kate and dumped by her family, crikey he lost everything all in one go, just like that. I now can't wait to see what happens next in the last one of this series. I'm loving the dancing on Strictly, this is quite amazing as I have never wanted to watch it before. Never liked it and didn't see the point in it all but wow how things change. It just goes to show that as well as sticking with drama that is waiting to unfurl there is always a chance you can fall in love with sequins and the odd quick step. You can tell they changed from a two week tuition to learning their dances in a week. They all did really well and we do have to remember that it is only week two. There are some real front runners though such as Alexandra, Debbie and Davood. I feel for Charlotte though unless she can lose that stiff body and relax a bit. Oh look at me, I'd be just as nervous if I did it and would have trouble looking graceful, not sure I'd get into a frock, I'm not that girly. I write this before the results show this evening so we'll see who goes, yes I'm actually bothered to see the results!!! Cold Feet continues to be brilliant as always, absolutely love this show and so glad they decided to bring it back. The characters are all as good as they were before and the storylines are fresh and relevant so carry on and never stop Cold Feet peeps. I don't know who makes me laugh more, David with his naivety, Adam and his green eyed monster but trying to do the right thing or Pete trying to find his cowboy hat for work. It truly is great and long may it continue. A new week to look forward to with a new drama starting called The Last Post and the return of The Apprentice which I do like so be prepared for me dissecting these new people who seem to think they may have a chance to become Lord Sugars business partner although if he's looking at them like I am well I'm wishing him a lot of luck. Take care everyone and please pop back tomorrow for Music Monday. Thanks for reading...... Phew what a busy week, I've been out most of this week so have had to watch everything on catch up. I think I've seen all I want to see now. There is a lot going on not only on TV but life in general. I'm beginning to think I could probably write my own little series. Were we all happy with the Masterchef finalist? It was a bit close at the end which I didn't think would be the case. I really though Becky had it in the bag until she had such bad luck and became a little bit over ambitious. Angelica did deserve the crown though and I was really pleased for her. They all did well and what a great series this has been. The trouble with all these cooking programmes is that they don't half make me hungry. I'm sure I'm putting on pounds just watching them. I've been craving loads of caramel since watching Bake Off, my diet has been well and truly ditched this week. I get all inspired and want to bake and make food with proper oil and fat rather than Fry Light and rabbit food. I will get back on track but might leave rabbit food to the rabbit. I'm trying to stick with Doctor Foster although she is getting on my nerves a bit. What she doing having hanky panky with her ex! Noooooooooooo. I cannot seem to get my head around this series and do struggle with the whole storyline but I am going to keep watching because I'm wondering whether there is a twist to it all. Let's see eh? I'll probably be ranting in a couple of weeks about it and saying 'was that it?' That's how it feels at the moment but I'm hoping to be surprised and shocked. I watched the new comedy Bad Move with Jack Dee which was a bit of a relief from all the drama. It was funny and the characters are brilliant. basically Steve (Jack Dee) and his wife Sarah move to the country for a fresh start and get away from the hustle and bustle of Leeds. They do their best to get into work with Sarah as a landscape gardener but finding her first customer can only pay her in cake and Steve who is a web designer unable to get any internet installed into their cottage. They are quickly running out of cash and stuck in a home which they cannot afford to renovate or resell. Having been inspired by Escape to the Country and similar programmes Jack thought that it couldn't be all plain sailing when it came to these big moves so when he co wrote this comedy he included some great pitfalls that you may think people would come across when taking the plunge. There is an element of the Good Life in this with neighbours Matt and his family who are trying to live self sufficiently cutting out sugar and making yogurt, jams and bread. They are searching for the perfect country life, well you can imagine Jack dee's face already can't you. A bit of light entertainment so well worth giving it a watch. Are you watching Rellik? Well here's another one I'm trying to stick with to see what happens. I do quite like it but I get really confused with the 'rewinding the clock' bit. An original idea which is effective but I guess we are all just used to watching it forwards and not backwards. Saying that I still tend to nod off sometimes in the middle of a drama and then have to rewind it to see what happened so I suppose you could say thats the same thing. It's a good storyline though so I'll persevere and see if I get used to it. Let me know what you think and tell me about anything else you are watching that I've not mentioned. I'm still into Strictly and enjoyed the first show. Love the Rev Richard Coles for a laugh and I'm siding with team Joe McFadden, he's just so lovely and smiley....love him. That will be interesting as it continues. I also look forward to Sunday nights with Victoria. That's not my new friend it's the series about Queen Victoria silly. I went to see the film 'Victoria and Abdul' this week. It's a great, very emotional film but with a lot of laughs too so if you get chance give it a watch. Judi Dench is such a fine actress and plays Victoria so well. It a beautiful story which is supposedly based on true events which I found really interesting. Oh so going to miss Strike now, loved that but it will turn apparently next year. There is one more book in the series which I thought they may have done all three but no we've got to wait. JK Rowling please write more because I don't think I want that to end. So that's it for this week, thank you for reading and I will be back with Music Monday tomorrow so join me then. For now though take care.......
You can tell that Autumn is here with the return of annual classics such as Strictly and X Factor, frightening too as these programmes usually take us up to Christmas now, arrrrrrrrhhhhh I mentioned the 'C' word!!!!
We also saw the return of Doctor Foster this week. The first series was just brilliant when GP Gemma Foster played by Suranne Jones got revenge on her cheating husband, oh it was good wasn't it? Thrilling drama right to the end. I'm a bit confused about this new series, doesn't take much I can tell you and I do sometimes start these things off not quite getting it then it clicks into place. In the first one we were all behind her as she had no idea hubby was having an affair and we wanted her to sort it all out but now she's kind of looking like she's maybe not over it? I suppose two years isn't a lot of time to recover and her ex has now announced his return to the neighbourhood with new wife in tow and a massive new house. In a perfect world she should just leave him to it and get on with her life but then that wouldn't make a good drama would it? I may not be understanding very well and after the last series I should know there is probably a bit more to it. I know I'm going to get to the end of it and think 'oh yeah ya right'. I couldn't help thinking what the heck she was doing snooping around his new home, it was obvious he was going to find her there. It's going to be great with more deception to unfurl, just stop looking like a bunny boiler for me Gemma! It continues on Tuesday 9pm on BBC1. Another great classic to return was Cold Feet. Now if you haven't seen this you have to go and watch the whole box set and then the last series which saw the pals all reunite after a huge big break. I'm not disappointed again with the second series, well so far. I love all of the actors and their characters are so lovable, yes even David who I think just absorbs bad luck quite naturally. It's such a feel good programme and over the years they have touched on some delicate issues, so brilliantly written. If you haven't got Cold Feet in your life, what is wrong with you? You need it - Sue from the Brew insists. I still to this day will never get over what happened to Rachel, gutted!!!. Never mind life goes on and it is going on really well. After you've caught up you can watch it on Friday evenings 9pm ITV. I will even help you on your way. Click on the following Amazon link (affiliated) and order the dvd's of the complete series. Now I'm not a big Strictly fan usually but I did watch the launch show last night and I actually got quite into it and a little excited by it all. I may try and stick at it and see what all the fuss is about. When I saw the Rev Richard Coles was taking part I thought it may be worth a watch. I will never forget that man being the keyboard player in The Communards, (80's pop for those who weren't around then). If he doesn't dance to one of their songs, there's no justice in this world. Would be good wouldn't it? Yes he's probably going to be the novelty contestant, there is always one but he will be a lot of fun. I love his 'Pause for Thought's' on Radio 2 and I would never have imagined him being a big Strictly fan but yes apparently he's been waiting for the call for a good many years now. There was a lovely touching tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth who presented the show for a long time before his death a few weeks ago. He will be sadly missed but I'm sure he's looking down and tapping those legendary feet. The contestants all have their partners now so we await the start of glittery costumes and sequinned frocks, I'm quite looking forward to it - who would have thought. Have a great week and I will be back for more tv chat next Sunday but if you can't wait until then and would miss me far too much I return for Music Monday tomorrow, so join me for that. Take for now......... |
