Well I've been keeping my eye on the usuals and there will be a couple of finales this week. We see the Bake Off final and the end of Strangers which I'm looking forward to seeing. Who really was behind Megan's murder? The plot thickens and this series has had a lot of revelations and twists, anything could happen. I squealed slightly at the end of the last weeks programme, wasn't expecting that really and I won't say in case you want to catch up.
I'm busting to know who will win The Great British Bake Off, it's so hard to call. Ruby looks like a great contender which I didn't think I would say as she looked like a goner at one point. Rahul was a favourite from the start but even he has had a wobbly now. Kim Joy is just so lovely, I've got to the stage where she's such a little emotional hippy I don't care how she bakes I just want her to win. Briony has been fab throughout and I don't mind seeing her win either so if you are looking to me for a prediction then, frankly I can't decide. Let them all win but will someone make sure Prue is not near a phone texting before Tuesday evening......we don't want to know the result too early eh? If you haven't seen the series Butterfly then go and catch up right now! It has been on ITV Sunday evenings and it did clash with The Cry so now that has finished you can go and watch it. There are just three programmes in the series and it stars Anna Friel as Vicky, a mum who fights for the happiness of her child. Max played by Callum Booth Ford is an eleven year old boy who wants to live life as a girl and to be accepted as Maxine. There are those dramas that get you sitting on the edge of your seat because they are edgy and thrilling and then there is this drama which just tears at your heart strings. It is wonderfully acted by all the cast and the feelings of all parties involved really came over. You could sympathise with everyone within this family unit whom really only wanted the best for this child. The passion involved sometimes led to drastic actions being taken and therefore the family faced the worst so prepare yourself as things do get heated. Take a look anyway to see if they do work it out. I wasn't going to watch it but after watching the first one I was hooked. There were some lovely moments such as the support Maxine gets from her older sister and also after seeing so much pain and agony, hurt and unrest, there was a ray of sunshine and hope, just a lovely drama. It is one of those dramas that if you are a parent, you feel all those feelings and it questions what you would do in that situation. I like that because it gets you thinking not only about life but what other people go through, a thinking drama. Now I'm thinking I should pop off and get some sleep.......I'll catch you again tomorrow for Music Monday but for now....... Take care.

It was the last one of the series of The Cry tonight and wow what an ending. This first started as a drama about a couple who's baby went missing then the plot just thickened like a winter veggie soup eh? Blimey I couldn't have predicted this in a million years, so well written and acted too.
I, like many thought Joanna played by Jenna Coleman was actually in court for her baby Noah's disappearance or that she was being convicted for his murder but no it was in fact her husband Alistair's unfortunate death. She just bumped him off big style, she was a bit annoyed that he had put the blame on her for Noah's death when in fact he had been the culprit all along. It was a great drama and if you haven't seen it try and catch up as it is one series that concluded completely differently to what I had expected. I love a good twist and turn and this had plenty of those. Another great drama was There She Goes starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes. I say great but in fact I mean blooming hard hitting and very emotional and I also say drama but this is in fact classed as a comedy drama would you believe. It is based on writer Shaun Pye's experiences with his daughter who was born with a chromosomal disorder. We see how the family try and cope or sometimes not cope with her condition. I think it is quite clever how it flicks from the early days of realising that something was different about Rosie to the present, comparing how life had moved on and seeing their every day struggles. I think this rings bells with so many people and their own experiences with their own lives. It's good that this is being shown to show the real strains of family life when someone has complex needs. It is on Tuesday evenings at 10pm BBC4 but available on the BBC iplayer if you need to catch up. Doctor Who continues to be amazing for me, I am just loving the new series and the new Doctor. This weeks episode was a great history lesson as they travelled back to 1955 and met Rosa Parks who fights for her equality by battling racial segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. It's hard to believe that this ever took place and really not that long ago. The crew have to make sure that history stays on course after Krasko a time travelling villain wants to alter it. It was a tense one and really emotional but well done for the Doctor Who team for portraying this as it is one of those lessons we need to learn from history especially for our future generations as we still have a way to go to improve on discrimination. A great week of TV and more to come this week. I was surprised that Seann and Katya made it through on Strictly. That sounds a bit wrong as I really like them and wanted them to stay especially after making such an improvement in their dance off. I think the judges probably saw that and decided to keep them, although apparently they made mistakes according to the great British critics. I just think they seemed to be looking like the couple to go soon, I hope not! Keeping going guys......can't wait to see what they have in store for the Halloween show. So have a good week my telly watching lovelies and I will be back for more chit chat again on the next Pass the Remote but if you just cannot wait until then, join me for Music Monday tomorrow. Bye for now. Wow what a week for Strictly and one couple in particular. I don''t have to say who as I'm sure we've all ready and seen enough of it all now. I am figuring though to get hold of that gliterball trophy you have to have stamina not only on the dance floor but in your relationship too.
If you saw The Jonathan Ross last night then you would have seen all three judges giving their views on the situation. I love Craig Revel Horwood anyway but he just nailed it all by saying that the curse was sometimes a blessing. He basically said that if your relationship wasn't that strong to start with then it is going to struggle. They all agreed that this kind of thing happens in any workplace in any profession all over the place it's just that of course it is going to here as the programme is so popular. Well lets hope it all blows over and gets sorted privately now and Seann and Katya can get on with the dancing. Maybe they ought to give drinkies after training a miss but they are through to the next week and to be honest I'm glad. I am a Seann Walsh fan and have been from the start, I don't think he'll win the thing but hey he was doing ok before his mouth accidentally fell on his partners......oh heck!! Bring it back guys and lets move on. A couple of programmes ended this week. We saw the last episode of Press which I have loved. I took to the drama between the two newspapers, The Herald and The Post. Holly kicked ass and we nearly saw the demise of Duncan but he wasn't going to give up early eh? I do hope this comes back. It was also the end of Wanderlust too. Now I have had a kind of love hate thing with this series. It must of captured me in some way as I watched it all. I did end up liking it in a way. There was the odd episode when I wondered how I would ever get that time back and that I may have wasted my viewing time but I needed to see what happened. It was a good drama and the cast were brilliant which is the reason it kept me watching. You take a look and see what you think, it is really worth a watch. Woah so I'm writing this post a little later than usual and have just watched The Cry. I was stuck like glue to the screen, I knew there was something about this abduction that wasn't sitting right but blimey what great drama. I just couldn't help thinking whether someone would actually do this with their baby and then another high profile, true child disappearance kept popping up in my mind. You know the one, is this what could have happened there? Who knows but if you haven't seen this evening's episode do catch up as it's absolutely brilliant. The series concludes next week. That's where I'm going to leave it for this week. Thank you for reading, please join me again tomorrow for Music Monday but for now...... Take care. Or should I say TARDIS? She hasn't actually found her TARDIS yet though but I'm sure it won't be long. So what did we think to Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor?
I really like the first episode, I thought it was a suitable introduction to the new Doctor and also the characters that may be joining her on her travels, after all she's just a traveller eh? The theme music has gone back to old style, It gave me goosebumps as it sounded just like it used to do way back in my younger days. I nearly felt like I may have to hide behind the sofa as the alien baddy looked very like Predator with human teeth which he wore on his face, these were extracted from his victims.....eww not nice but great in as Doctor Who aliens go. It had a nice balance of drama and humour to it with a neat little storyline for the first one. Not too completed as some writers before have made it but Chris Chibnall go it just right. I liked the choosing of her clothes and think she looks brilliant. I'm not even having to adjust to the gender change of The Doctor, I really just see the character and the personality carrying through irrelevant of whether male or female. It does look as though she is going to have a few travelling companions rather than just one. I love Bradley Walsh. I'm a big Chase fan but now get to see him something else for a change. So well done to the BBC, it's not only nice to have Doctor back after quite a long wait but it's seems fresh and new again, I'm looking forward to watching more episodes. Did you like it? Let me know your views. Thank you so much for reading today, please feel free to pop back tomorrow for Music Monday.....but for now, take care. Blimey that was a heck of a finale of the drama series Bodyguard. I think I stopped breathing at one point, which is not good as I had to last fifteen minutes more than I thought.
It got to ten o' clock and I thought that it just wasn't wrapping up then realised it was in extra time, great I'm nearing hyperventilating now. What a great ending though, even if Sgt Budd was using a radio with a bomb around his middle. I'm no expert and not even sure whether that's a risk, I know they tell me not to use my mobile phone at the petrol station but exactly how risky is it to use a radio so close to a bomb? I don't want to find out. I thought it was really good, don't get me wrong there are other dramas just as good but this seemed to dominate the viewing figures. I'm not sure if I had any idea of how it would end as there were so many twists and turns but the end made sense and was even left open for maybe another series. I'll need to prepare my poor beating heart but yes I think it could be interesting to see another series. I think Strangers is another twisty sort of drama and really grabbing me at the moment. Can we trust anyone in this?....David the husband in Hong Kong or the Police seem all corrupt as well so not sure where this is going to go. I like that....a bit of mystery and I always like to gasp at the end, a good sign so cannot wait to see how this turns out. I'm now wondering if John Simm may turn out not be as he seems but am I just going a bit overboard with the plot. I do sometimes get to the end of some dramas and get slightly disappointed as I would have finished them differently but that doesn't mean it's right just that I may get a bit carried away. I'm really enjoying Press at the moment too. I love Ben Chaplin in this, he is such a naughty editor but just love the way he portrays Duncan the editor of The Post. Now Holly is jumping ship from The Herald and going to the dark side, yikes! Is she doing the right thing? I'm not sure but I'm really looking forward to see her go for it. I think she will be a good challenge with Duncan. Great drama though, loving it. The winner of Celebrity Masterchef was just who I wanted it to be. I have loved watching John Partridge and did think he was a winner from the start. I love how he showed his emotions and that he felt so passionate about the food he cooked, it actually meant something to him which I think added to the reason he deserved to be the winner. Well done John and I hope we see you cooking more on the tv. A great series this time and a big well done to everyone else who took part. So who is going to leave Strictly tonight? I think it will be Susannah Constantine, she lacks the confidence and I think she'll get left behind with the others making a lot of progress. I feel sorry for her partner Anton Du Beke, he always gets put with he celebrity who you know will go out early. I would love the BBC to put him with someone who stands a better chance of winning.....always early doors for him and he makes me laugh. Oh well, we'll see anyway. Well I didn't win the big rollover lottery but did win a lucky dip for next week so maybe my winnings are yet to come. I'll keep you posted. Have a good week and if you want to read more then join me tomorrow for Music Monday but for now take care. Oh I'm loving this new series on Netflix. After watching Josh Groban at Proms in the Park, listening to his new album 'Bridges' I thought I just need to see him appearing in this new series 'The Good Cop'.
I know it's like a 'Josh fest' but my goodness this man can put his hand to anything. Not only does he have a fabulous voice, is totally charming his acting is tip top too. He is really funny as he plays TJ a cop who never breaks the rules, seriously everything he does he does by the book. So different from his dad played by Tony Danza who likes to break the rules, he's done time in prison and now out on parole living with his son. There is a different murder to solve in every episode and TJ gets a little help from his father whether he wants it or not which makes it very entertaining and very funny. A good paring between these two, I'm hooked completely and only half way through the season so far so can't wait to watch more. Catch it on Netflix now!! Bad Move returned for another series on Wednesday evening, ITV at 8pm which I'm glad about. Jack Dee is back with Kerry Godliman as Steve and Nicky in pursuit of a good builder to fix the roof after the antics in the last series. They do find a honest builder who's name is Honest John but his honesty goes to extremes a little and they have to decide whether honesty is the best policy. All the regular characters are back including Grizzo, their rock star neighbour played by Seann Walsh who you may be watching on Strictly's dancefloor. Which leads me to the new start of Strictly. What did we think? I'm loving the line up this year, I think it will be a good series. Some of them took me by surprise on how well they did for the first week. Typically though the two top leaders were experienced dancers in a way. Faye from Steps and Ashley Roberts both have had a lot of dancing experience but then I've said this before and it doesn't always happen that the contestants who can dance necessarily do well so we'll see. I can't pick my favourite at the moment, I do hope Katie Piper gets a boost of confidence as she is such an amazing woman, with all she has been through I'd like to see her go on and on but feel nerves may get the better of her and I totally understand why. Oooh can't wait to see more and this comes from someone who never like Strictly at all. I can't get enough of it now. I took a bit of time out and watched the new 'Murder on the Orient Express' starring, well just about everyone. I missed this at the cinema and wanted to see it so I watched it on Now TV Cinema. Kenneth Branch directs and stars as Hercule Poirot who has to instigate a murder (I know surprising eh?) on a Choo Choo which gets derailed in a storm. A great whodunnit also starring Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Willem Defoe, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Michelle Pfeiffer, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr, Daisy Ridley and Olivia Colman. Such a great cast and a very entertaining movie, I really enjoyed it. So onto a new week with the finale tonight of Bodyguard, yikes!!! The most watched drama so far which viewing figures through the roof. I have no idea how this is going to end, it's leading us down every path possible but I think there is going to be a bit of a twist and maybe a big surprise. I hope it doesn't disappoint. Watch out for our very own Derbyshire Rock Choir members on 'Trust me I'm a Doctor' this week (Wednesday BBC2 8pm). They took part in various tests to see whether singing can boost feel good chemicals in the brain. I know the answer personally but this is all about science and whether singing can provide the same natural high as sports and exercise. We were all filmed doing a bit of singing too so keep your eyes peeled and you may catch Sue from the Brew on ya telly (may blink and miss me) but my friends will be there doing the hard work.....eek excited. Thanks for reading today......catch me back here tomorrow for Music Monday but for now take care. Wow what a week of new drama. and it all started with Strangers last Monday evening. The brilliant John Simm stars as Jonah Mulray who is a Professor going along his normal daily life when tragedy hits and his wife, played by Dervla Kirwan is killed in a car crash in Hong Kong. He flies out there to identify her body and unravels a secret double life which his wife has been living, unbeknown to him.
Sally Porter played by Emilia Fox, the British Second Secretary based at the British Embassy in Hong Kong becomes his only contact and friend. He soon comes to depend on her to grab information and try and understand the shocking truth about his wife. It was fantastic and I was glued to this. Not only has it got a brilliant cast, it got you on the edge of your seat. I wasn't expecting this plot at all as I hadn't read too much about the series before it started. I said a lot of 'omg's' and 'woah's' and honestly cannot wait until the next one on Monday. The next drama started on BBC2 on Wednesday night called Trust. This is a drama based on real events following the Getty family. Blimey I never knew much about the Getty's at all really, they were very wealthy but not happy eh? In fact they didn't like each other much at all, the only people who did get on were all John Paul Getty Seniors girlfriends. Donald Sutherland did play him well though I thought. Best not to ask grandad for money though as you never know when you might get kidnapped and no one believe it all. Yikes! You can carry on watching all 10 episodes on iplayer but I may just wait and watch it week by week. Interesting drama, really liked it and I like learning more about people. Certainly very colourful in the Getty household. One drama I couldn't wait to see more of was Killing Eve. Oh my goodness, this is one to watch!! After the first episode last night I just couldn't stand the suspense and I've just binge watched it all today. It is absolutely brilliant. Am I raving enough about it yet? I may never shut up. Eve played by Sandra Oh is a MI5 security officer and bored with her job until she starts to investigate Villanelle a complete psychopathic killer and professional assassin. They take on a cat and mouse type of trip, both having an obsession about each others movements and lives. This leads to threats to friends and family along the way and a lot of dead bodies. This is one of those series that when you get to the end of one episode you just need to carry on to see what happens next. It's fast moving, keeps you interested and just great drama. Jodie Comer is Villianelle and you may recognise her from being the other woman in Doctor Foster. She is joined by stars such as Fiona Shaw from The Harry Potter movies and Kim Bodnia who starred in The Bridge if you watched that. The series originally aired in America and was so popular there, people raved about it and I can see why. The end is left for a possible second series which would be so good!! Give it a watch......it's so addictive. So a lot to keep tabs on and keep watching. Bodyguard carries on tonight and we will see Strictly start properly next Saturday so get your glitter out and and get ready to dance around your living room. This is the countdown to Christmas (oops had to mention it). Thank you for reading today, join me again tomorrow for Music Monday but for now take care. Woah sorry I'm a bit late I just got completely carried away with Kylie at Hyde Park Live on the Red Button but I'll talk about her tomorrow night because she's all about music. You need to just catch up with the BBC coverage though because there is such big news there. Oh Lordy!!!
So what has been happening this week? Well we've had a new series start called Press which is about two rival newspapers....The Post a tabloid and The Herald which is a more left leaning newspaper. This is a great idea for drama, there are going to be some great stories involving ethics and finding some sort professional balance in this kind of industry. A great start, I liked it, it's going to be a good gritty show to watch. It is written by Mike Bartlett who wrote Doctor Foster so it should be good right? You can find it on BBC1 on Thursday evenings at 9pm. It has a great cast including the great David Suchet, Charlotte Riley from Peaky Blinders and Ben Chaplin from Apple Tree Yard. So give it a go, see what you think. Another starter this week was Wanderlust which is about a couple who are finding themselves in a situation where their marriage has hit a bit of a rut and the first episode sees them sleeping with other people to see if that's the kind of excitement they need but is it? Well we'll see. Not sure about this one yet, it didn't grab me completely but I'll give it a chance and see what happens. I want to like it as it has Toni Collette starring in it whom I love after seeing her in Muriels Wedding amongst other things. and also Steven Mackintosh who is also a great actor. It could turn out quite entertaining, I would never have thought of putting these two actors together but it will be interesting to see how it goes. I've only seen one episode and I never judge a tv show on just one viewing so I will come back to that. If anyone is wondering where my views on Age Before Beauty went well that was one I had to leave behind. I did watch a few but for me it just wasn't enough to keep me watching. Some people did find it to their taste though so that's good, we can't all like the same things. If I come back to it I'll let you know. If you have been watching Stan Lee's Lucky Man another series has concluded there. What a great series, I just love this and didn't Rupert Penry-Jones make the ultimate baddy? My goodness I so wanted James Nesbitt to sort him out. A lot of ups and downs and losses too but it looks as though it may have been left open for another series. I hope so. I will hopefully catch you tomorrow for Music Monday, it's been a busy weekend with Proms in the Park at Hyde Park in London which I attended so I will be chatting about that. Thank you for being here this evening though and you all take care. It's a bit late and I've just got back from my holidays in Scotland so it may be. bit of a short post today. I have watched a bit of tv on the odd evening and couldn't resist watching the start of new drama 'Bodyguard'.
It started last Sunday with the second programme continuing on Bank Holiday Monday, I haven't actually caught up with the third episode yet so you may know more than me at this point.....no spoilers! It got off to a great start though I thought. What a great mind player. Would he stay professional and put side his personal views aside to do his job or would his personal situation take over? I was completely glued to this as it could go either way and we just don't know how it's all going to go, complete mystery. A great drama with the potential of being a smash hit. Great acting and a very original script. I will be watching and recapping soon. Another new starter this week was the return of The Great British Bake Off. We started with biscuits this week and what a great selection of classics including the making of the great 'Wagon Wheel'. I get so hungry watching this and feel the need to start baking too which is good because I'm sure that's part of the reason for this show, to try and get the nation baking. A great mix of contestants including the lovely Star Baker this week, Manon Lagreve who was born and raised in France and despite not knowing what a Wagon Wheel was she baked them to perfection. She is going to be one to watch me thinks. I going to be ten stone heavier from not only eating my way around Scotland but watching Bake Off and celebrity Master Chef too. I'm loving John Partridge on Masterchef, you can tell it means a lot to him but Spencer Matthews maybe one to watch, he progressed massively and I think may go all the way. Love it thought, great new series and I love the new feature of them cooking with 'the wall' between the two team members, great idea!! So I'm going to come back to all these programmes again soon and recap. Sorry it's been a quickie but I need to catch up not just the tv but with myself too so I will love you all and leave you for now and be back refreshed for Music Monday tomorrow, until then....... Take care. There are so many ways to watch tv now with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix but you still find yourself having to flick from one to another to get something you want to watch and for the best deal.
NOW TV offers you Sky's on demand catalogue with four passes to Entertainment, Cinema, Kids and Sports. Instead of subscribing and plonking a dish on the side of your house you can just pay as you go every month. I originally went for the Entertainment package on a big free trial offer and it has lots of good box sets to watch. It is priced at £7.99 a month but you can find offers around to pay less for a considerable time. I also had a free trial on the Cinema package (normally priced at £9.99 per month) as I wanted to watch a film I couldn't find on Netflix so I watched it under the free trial. You can cancel at any time, just make sure you do as they will take the full monthly amount out if you don't. The trouble is when you do go to cancel you sometimes get offered a discount to stay on which is a great way to keep you in the system. I can't say I use the cinema that much but with the package you do also get access to some of the live channels too so it is worth it if you are not a Sky user in general, you can become a Sky dipper. For those with children the Kids package is a nice price at £4 per month and for the bigger kids there is Sky Sports where you can have a day pass for a certain footy game or a F1 race, for a little extra you can take on a week or for £33.99 you can have a month of sports viewing. You can view NOW TV in so many ways it's difficult to get away from it. There is a box, a stick, you can view through a games console, Apple TV, Chromecast and some smart tv's have it already installed. You can view through a tablet or your phone and also on a PC or laptop so away you go, the worlds your oyster as they say. The kind people at NOW TV sent me an offer for a free little box to plug in to the tv so I of course said yes, I'll be having that and I use it on my tv upstairs. It's great, I can carry on binge watching my box sets if I feel like it and it also has other apps so I can catch up with tv on BBC iplayer, ITV Hub and All 4 and many more. I do tend to flick from one streaming service to another, sometimes you have to as not everything is available on one service but if you do go with NOW TV there are some good starter deals and also keep an eye out for the voucher prices to continue as there are some good offers to help you stay viewing. The one down side is to just make sure that a box set is going to be on NOW TV for a while as they do tend to drop some of them. You could have a few episodes of your favourite box set to watch and then it 's not available anymore. They do give you a warning of how long programmes are available and then some box sets make way for newer ones so it's all good. For more information go to: www.nowtv.com and start your free trial now.....ha ha NOW! (get it). Oh I'm wasted as a blogger, should have been a comedienne eh? Don't answer that!! Ok I will be back tomorrow for Music Monday but for now...... Take care!! |
